This Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

“As we reunite with our families on the Thanksgiving holiday, we are reminded once again of our military men and women, standing watch in dangerous places to protect our liberties at home. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for their service, and with emotion for the families that mourn an empty place at the table, now filled with tender memories of those who in loving sacrifice have laid down their lives.” (Mitt Romney)

RESEARCH PAPER: “Stem Cells: Are They All The Same?”

Stem Cells: Are They All The Same?

“If human embryonic stem cell research does not make you at least a little bit uncomfortable, you have not thought about it enough.”

          — James A. Thomson

“Destroying human life in the hopes of saving human life is not ethical, and it is not the only option before us,”

          — George W. Bush

Cloning provides several societal benefits including the opportunity to uncover cures for once untreatable diseases, prevent the extinction of various species, and improve production capacity to ease food shortages. With all the scientific breakthroughs in animal and horticulture cloning, and regenerative medicine capabilities, are there really any negatives to cloning and stem cell research?

Many find stem cell research and therapy unethical because they believe that life begins at the point of conception.  Others think that creating an identical twin for the sake of replacement, or as a donor for a medical condition, is not only wrong but also immoral. While both arguments are plausible, the benefit to society as a whole far outweighs the disadvantages.  Specifically, cloning and stem cell research facilitates scientific research for cures due to the unlimited availability of test samples necessary for repeated trials.

SOAPBOX: Give Up Your Gun and Get Your Cheese With Ease

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Another lame attempt from Dallas Mayor Tom Leppart (Dem) to appease the masses. Ya really think a $50 gift card is going to make me give up my constitutionally protected right to bear arms or convince a convict to give up their AK47? Sure sounds like corporate b.s. (oh wait that’s his backgound) There is no way in hell any right minded person would dump a gun on a table for a gallon of milk. However, if you were a junky looking to get your next hit, you’d probably ransack your neighbors’ house to steal their gun, hold up a gas station, and turn the gun in so you can then run down to Koger and get your Tylenol (btw..on sale right now: 2 for 1). Good thing there’s a no questions asked policy. That driver’s license you have been carrying around for a few months isn’t even yours so you can get your gun and cocktail for your cheese with ease. Good Job Dallas.

What about some useful program such as offering classes on how to safely store and use your guns (so that aformentioned junkie couldn’t use it), or for something more benefical to the community such as every illegal immigrant you turn in the city will give you a $50 gift card (limit 4 per registered Dallasite). How about for every pot hole you help fill (specifically the one I broke my toe on last weeked that former Mayor Laura Miller swore she would fix), the cops will respond WITHIN 30 minutes to each 911 call. Okay maybe the last one was a stretch, but seriously folks, it took over three hours for a response last time I called and that guy was using binoculars looking into MY apartment.

And that last statement in the below article: “It takes only one gun, one shot to destroy a family.” Fool please! It takes only one teaspoon of peanut butter to put you in the county hospital only to die in the waiting room. How about working on real issues like public education, heathcare,  and weak commute routes (I don’t care what that overly expensive study said, not having an opening for the HOV in Richardson makes that lane a waste of money) Focus on something that will really help the community.

Soooooo…. when is Dallas going to be selling shirts for this program and who’s bank account is it going to benefit?
