Hot Blood
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009Donated what seemed to be all my blood today. I know my blood isn’t that special (A+) but maybe it’ll be used in movies or sold to some freaky vampires. In anycase, it’s not the first nor last time I donate, although I had a lil “incident” this time around. As they were finishing up and preparing to seal off the bag, was about the time I started passin out.
Them:”Laura, we need you to stay awake.”
Me: “Nah, I’m good. Just gonna gonna sleep.”
Next thing I know, there were frickin freezing towels on my neck and head and was forced down a couple of really really really aweful Powerades (did I say aweful, because I meant GAWD AWEFUL). Who the hell likes the blue one anyways? ICK! The good part came when I could finally not feel like throwin up and had some nutter butters.mmmm. Two please! Felt fine and headed home. Got home, laid down, ate a crap load of junk food and poured down some water. A couple hours later, I went to get Jordan from school and was fine until I stepped out in the blazin’ heat. BAM! Good thing Carla and Malani (a RN) were right next to me. With me layin in her car and Carla playing with Jordan, they got me cooled down and ready to go home. Later, Jordan and I went over to the Bass’ for dinner and pretty much did nothing but eat carbs and downed another 6 glasses of water. eh, It’s what I get for rushing out the door this morning and skipping my 100% sugar Fruity Pebble cereal I had sitting out just for this occasion.
I have the bestest friends ever. They deal with my stupidity. HA!
Next time I’m for sure eating and chugging a gallon of water beforehand.
Gimme A Break
Sunday, August 30th, 2009With Jeff in India, Jordan out of summer camp and at home, me in school (9hr this sem with a million projects), and a pro bono project I’m working on, I was soooooooo looking forward to spending a few hours outside the house at Salvation Army. This week, we served brisket sandwiches that smelled (OMFG) sooo good. Afterwards, we tried to find a nearby BBQ joint that could hold 20 or so but couldn’t, so we settled on the usual Ojedas. (We’ll be prepared next time.) Really looking forward to baking a couple of sheet cakes for SA next month! mmmm I think Red Velvet and Funfetti!
Here’s a site to the best cupcakes EVER! www.handsoncakes.com I recommend the vanilla with a bavarian raspberry filling and butter cream icing. Go on, try it. It’s worth the 2 extra pounds.
Oh yah, today marks the 3rd anniversay of when I quit smoking. Yeah Me!
I should celebrate with a cupcake!
Up next, A Family Reunion Pow Wow….
Salvation Army 08/23/09
Monday, August 24th, 2009Kinda turning into my own salvation I suppose. Gotta do something to make up for my being a lil terror a while back. I filled out a standard (non-group) volunteer app to maybe teach a few classes, so we’ll hope my schedule allows a lil time for that. The chef marinated some amazing cherry tomatoes in some italian season and omfg they were so good. The groups didn’t eat them because they’ve had tomatoes for 4 days. I suppose you make what you got. Afterwards we headed off to Ojedas for a lil munchin and were greeted by a mariachi band. Now I understand the pants are supposed to be tight, but I was seriously hoping they didn’t sit down and rip em. Next month we are baking cakes!
5K & RAK
Saturday, August 15th, 2009Another busy weekend (is there a term that better describes an extremely busy weekend?). In any case, we’ve just been jammed packed full of stuff and it’s not going to let up anytime soon. Friday, after I dropped Jordan off at preschool, I decided I would sneak in a movie and saw Julie n Julia. Pretty good. Looked pretty frickin yummy too! May have to read the book….the cookbook that is. The raspberry bavarian cream in the movie looked very delectable.
Friday evening, Sissy n her family came over, as well as Charmy for some playtime with the kiddos. Saturday morning (6am wakeup call – majah eww), Grandma, Charmy, Jordan n I participated in a 5k (Benefiting the Samatarian Inn). It was Charmy’s first 5k EVERRRRR! WooHOO! You Go Girl! We finished, albeit I was carrying Jordan a lil over a mile at the end. She just doesn’t dig strollers I guess. That evening, JP and his family came over for a game of “Imagine If” (Imagine if I won; oh right, I did) and bought over these delicious cupcakes that are the best I have ever had. Hmm not so sure that is a good thing. I want more of them.
hehe. I must really be into the sweets lately. Sunday Morning, I went off to my usual RAK gig at the Salvation Army and was on the “the line” this time, putting food on trays like a lunch lady only a million times faster. So many jokes were created as we kept running out of trays, silverware and food. Sunday evening, my FIL and his wife, as well as Bass n Heather came over for my yummy Pork Loin and Mango Mojo. Did I mention I found a small sliver of time for Deeps to come over to measure me for a sari for her baby shower? OMFG, they require the weirdest measurements for a blouse, but then again, I’m not in India where they will stich it together. I think Deeps and I are now much closer than we were before because of the measurement taking. ha! I’m beat, exhausted and ready for my final this week, well I’m ready for this class to finally frickin end. One week off before next semester begins and I’m spending it with my brother and his kids. hmmm I need to think of more ways to harass him.
