Gimme A Break

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

With Jeff in India, Jordan out of summer camp and at home, me in school (9hr this sem with a million projects), and a pro bono project I’m working on,  I was soooooooo looking forward to spending a few hours outside the house at Salvation Army. This week, we served brisket sandwiches that smelled (OMFG) sooo good. Afterwards, we tried to find a nearby BBQ joint that could hold 20 or so but couldn’t, so we settled on the usual Ojedas. (We’ll be prepared next time.) Really looking forward to baking a couple of sheet cakes for SA next month! mmmm I think Red Velvet and Funfetti! :)

Here’s a site to the best cupcakes EVER! www.handsoncakes.com I recommend the vanilla with a bavarian raspberry filling and butter cream icing. Go on, try it. It’s worth the 2 extra pounds.

Oh yah, today marks the 3rd anniversay of when I quit smoking. Yeah Me! :-D I should celebrate with a cupcake!

Where Have I NOT Been?

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

As usual, the last few weeks have been hetic. What I wouldn’t give for a day off. HAHAHA! Like that’s ever gonna happen anytime soon. School starts on Monday. Been kinda stoked to see what interesting and controversial topics we will be writing about. So let’s see…. Jeff turned 39. Had a big shin dig at the house… as Jordan says… “too old”. HeHe! Just reminds me I am inching closer to the big 3-0. I’ll soon be Laura, version 3.0. Could be a good thing I suppose, right? Software goes through revisioning for improvements…hmm maybe if I think of it like that it won’t be so bad. Then again, I COULD use some UI enhancements! hahah I just crack myself up. oo..that’s not good. More face cream.

I have been trying my hand at a lil crafting lately. The Mother’s Day magnets were such a hit, I thought I’d try making some frames. Been cool, but I guess since I don’t have all the supplies, it’s getting kinda $$. May have to find another project after these last few are done.

Started and finished reading New Moon (pg ct: 563), Eclipse (pg ct: 629), and Breaking Dawn (pg ct: 756) last week. Neighbor was a little ticked that I took about a day on each to read, but I guess it goes to show why I wasn’t into paying $25+ a book that I’d probably only read once. NOTE: My Anne Rice novels are a different story. I sure wish Ms Rice would continue the vampire and Mayfair series.

It’s getting frickin HOT! We got Jordan a “wimmin” pool with a slide (that she just frickin loves). I have a feeling that since the economy is still slumping, the public spray grounds will be icky again… and we don’t want to be sicky icky.  Last night we took Deeps and KK to Japon…no not Japan (geez I frickin wish) and had some good food, stopped over @ Love n War to pick up Deena (I miss that place), did a lil ring toss, bantered with a few folks, and headed over to Ra (“Jordan, what does a bear say?/RAAA”) and had a lil girl time while the guys puffed away in the street.

Funny Moment #1: Waitress at Japon asked Deeps about getting virgin cocktails (bein prego n all), then looked at me and said, “What about you..Virgin?” I blurted out, “That’s personal!” and she came right back with “you can tell me, it’s just between you and me”. :)

Funny Moment #2: Saggy Wranglers vs Correct Wranglers

Mommy & Me Day

The day has finally come. Jordan and I boarded DART (rail transit) for her first time. Granted it was just until the next stop, but it still counted. She was really excited and kept saying “choo choo”. We headed over to Wildflower to hear some music, eat junk food, pet some animals and run in the water. I didn’t have much chance with the whole water thing. She was gonna get wet whether I liked it or not. Didn’t stay long after she got soaked, so we went back on the train and she didn’t want to get off. Maybe someday we’ll spend a day riding the train. I’ll bring a bottle of Lysol with me.

Tomorrow is the another day/night @ Wildflower, but this time so see some rockin bands. :)

A Dinner Date With The Underwoods

Friday, May 15th, 2009

As convenience would have it, Deena’s kid goes to the same school (near our house) as Jordan so we decided we’d pop over to Nico’s and have a lil Mommy & Me dinner. Pretty cool lil cantina and nice staff. Food was a little bland, but could have been just what we ordered. Afterwards we headed to our house so the kids could dispel the rest of their energy on the trampoline. Literally had to pull the kids apart kickin and screaming. I think Jordan found a new friend. :-D

Austin, TX (Laura Style)

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Went to Austin (of course we stopped over in West, don’t be silly) with the family and Deepa n KK. Got a chance to hang out with my cousins, inlaws and give Deeps her first view of Austin. We stopped over at one of my favorite hangouts and were a lil dissappointed with the band so we headed (It was more of a bigband sound than jazz) out to Six and then jetted to ride around town in tuk tuks. Good Food, Good Company, Good Times.
